Meta Announces Massive AI Data Center Investments Targeting 2026 Launch

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled ambitious plans to construct multi-gigawatt AI data centers, signaling the company's aggressive push into next-generation machine learning infrastructure. The social media giant's first facility, Prometheus, is scheduled for completion in 2026, with a subsequent Hyperion site planned to scale to five gigawatts.

The scale of investment reflects an intensifying arms race for AI supremacy among tech giants. "We are building multiple more titan clusters," Zuckerberg noted on Threads, comparing one cluster's footprint to "a significant part of Manhattan." Industry analysts at SemiAnalysis predict Meta could become the first lab to deploy an AI supercluster exceeding one gigawatt capacity.

While the capital expenditure raises eyebrows, Zuckerberg pointed to Meta's robust advertising revenue as sufficient to fund these infrastructure projects.
